Butler Automatic - Product Development Engineer – Job Opportunity
Butler Automatic is the inventor of automatic splicing, and the largest global manufacturer of automatic web splicing equipment for food, pharmaceutical, printing and consumer packaged goods markets. The company’s splicers are used to manufacture many different products including stand-up pouches, flexible pouches, film bags, paper bags, business forms, envelopes, disposable diapers, wallpaper, fiberglass insulation, and corrugated cardboard.
General Duties and Responsibilities
• Utilize SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD to design complete mechanical systems for use in the packaging and web handling industry
• Develop and release mechanical bills of material and assembly documentation for procurement & fabrication of automated splicing systems
• Maintain information as related to the design or specification of new components
• Work toward continuous product improvements and cost-reduction
• Assist manufacturing group in the assembly and debug of systems
• Support sales group through cost estimating, providing layout drawings, and technical support
• Interface with customers in the development of system specific performance requirements
• Work with the service group to support on-site start-up and repair activities with occasional requirement of travelling to customer sites, both domestic and abroad
• Create custom User’s Manuals based on standard product manuals as necessary
• Act as facilitator/host for customer Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 10-15 years of relevant machine automation experience
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
• Experience in the design of cost-effective machines and mechanisms consisting of machined components, sheet metal, electric motors, pneumatic actuators, bearings, and rotary mechanisms
• Prior involvement in cost-reduction exercises and proven ability for technical problem resolution
• Working knowledge of pneumatic circuits and control
• Experience in web-handling systems and/or vertical or horizontal form-fill-seal packaging (VFFS or HFFS) machines for use in food-processing environment is highly advantageous
• Experience with PLC control and PLC programming is beneficial but not mandatory
• Familiarity and experience designing products for use in food-processing environment and meeting CE safety requirements is beneficial
• Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects in various stages of completion
Compensation
$100-$140k, based on experience, plus PTO, medical and dental insurance, 401(k)
